P432 ARTERIAL STIFFNESS AND CARDIOVASCULAR RISK IN PATIENTS WITH NEPHROLITIASIS: A 10–YEAR PROSPECTIVE STUDY

چکیده

Abstract Nephrolithiasis is frequently associated with several cardiovascular diseases, and the pathophysiological connection may rely on some common risk factors. In fact, systemic inflammation, promoting oxidative stress, lead to arterial wall stiffening (which considered an independent predictor of risk); however, same mechanism also play a role in Randall’s plaques deposition, which predisposing step nephrolithiasis. This study aims examine correlation between stiffness nephrolithiasis, exploring its trend across aging. 82 patients (mean age 45±13 years, 36 males) referred Geriatrics Nephrology Outpatient Clinic were prospectively enrolled: at baseline after 10 years they underwent clinical evaluation (with particular focus events factors), measurement, obtaining carotid–femoral Pulse Wave Velocity (PWVcf) by applanation tonometry. 66 diagnosed whereas remaining 16 formed control group. At baseline, compared group, nephrolithiasis showed higher systolic blood pressure PWVcf (128±18 vs 117±16 mmHg, p 0.02 7.78±1.53 6.50±1.13 m/s, 0.001 respectively). After (p 0.001), but not without 0.081), had significant raise PWVcf, as (10.64±3 7.78±1.55 m/s); this was confirmed even adjustment for sex. backward regression model, considering variation over follow up (ΔPWVcf) dependent variable, age, sex, Δ mean pressure, Body Mass Index, hypertension variables, proved be only ΔPWVcf, accounting 6.9% variance 0.027). conclusion, present outlines increased affected represented wider increase ΔPWVcf within years. These findings endorse comprehensive subjects moving beyond nephrological condition, patient’s profile, identify, prevent or treat any possible organ damage.

Cardiovascular risk factors in patients with psoriasis: A casecontrol study

Recent studies suggest that psoriasis may be an independent risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia have been reported in patients with psoriasis Certain risk factors for cardiovascular diseases may be more prevalent among patients with psoriasis 3,4. The aim of this study was to defi...

Vascular calcification, cardiovascular risk and arterial stiffness in hemodialysis patients

Intimal and medial calcification, the two main types of arterial calcification, are associated, respectively, with arteriosclerosis and mediosclerosis. In non-dialysis patients, both intimal1 and medial calcification2 may be the result of an active regulated process with different aetiologies, where local cells, such as macrophages in the intima or vascular smooth cells in the media, differenti...

Obesity, arterial stiffness, and cardiovascular risk.

Long-term follow-up studies have indicated that obesity is an independent predictor of cardiovascular risk in both genders. Increased arterial stiffness, as reflected by an increased pulse wave velocity, is significantly and independently associated with higher risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In recent years, it has been demonstrated that individuals with obesity are likely to ...

Prospective Relationship of Change in Ideal Cardiovascular Health Status and Arterial Stiffness: The Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study

BACKGROUND In 2010, the American Heart Association defined ideal cardiovascular health as the simultaneous presence of 4 favorable health behaviors (nonsmoking, ideal body mass index, physical activity at goal, and dietary pattern that promotes cardiovascular health) and 3 favorable health factors (ideal levels of total cholesterol, blood pressure, and fasting glucose). The association between ...

Increased arterial stiffness in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a mechanism for increased cardiovascular risk.

RATIONALE Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with a 2-3-fold increase in the risk of ischaemic heart disease, stroke and sudden death. The mechanisms responsible for this association are not clear and appear to be independent of smoking history. OBJECTIVE We test the hypothesis that patients with COPD have increased arterial stiffness and blood pressure in comparison w...
